What is Persian Azeri?
Azerbaijani, or Azeri, is a Turkic language spoken by millions of people in Iran, especially in Tabriz and the northwest, and in Tehran. In Iran it is written in a Perso-Arabic alphabet; across the border, in the Republic of Azerbaijan, it is written in Latin letters. Persian Azeri teaches the Azeri of Tabriz and shows every word in both scripts with English, so you can read it, say it and use it with family and friends.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Persian Azeri?
An app and free guides for learning Azerbaijani (Azeri) as it is spoken in Iran, starting with the Azeri of Tabriz. Every word comes in Perso-Arabic script, Latin letters and English.
Is Azeri the same as Persian?
No. Azeri is a Turkic language, a close relative of Turkish, while Persian is an Indo-European language. Centuries side by side mean the Azeri spoken in Iran uses many Persian words, like “xahiş” (please) and “xudahafiz” (goodbye).
How is it different from the Azerbaijani spoken in Baku?
It's the same language. In Iran it is written in a Perso-Arabic alphabet and borrows more words from Persian; in the Republic of Azerbaijan it is written in Latin letters and borrows more from Russian. Accents and some everyday words differ too.
Do I need to read the Perso-Arabic script?
No. Every word also comes in Latin letters and English, so you can start speaking right away and pick up the script as you go.
